Medal Success For Arklow Runners

There was medal success for a group of Arklow runners at the first ever Wicklow Off-Road 10k Championship. St. Benedict Inbhear Mór AC took home bronze medals for both the male and female team categories. The male team consisted of Conor Craig, Marc Stokes, and Denny Green who also took home an individual age category medal. Making up the female team was Aoife Tunney, Clara Kavanagh, and Susan Dixon.

10k Championship

Glendalough AC were the hosts of the inaugural event which started and finished in Laragh GFC. Over 50 runners from 6 Wicklow clubs took on the 10k trail course through the Derrybawn Woods. The event was originally devised in 2016 by Glendalough AC. It was then given the green light by Wicklow Athletics in June.

St Benedict Inbhear Mór AC

St Benedict Inbhear Mór is Arklow’s official Athletics Ireland registered athletics club. Formed in 2017, the club underwent a merging in July 2020. This brought together St Benedict AC which catered for juveniles and Inbhear Mór AC which catered for adults. This formed one club, St Benedict Inbhear Mór AC.

The club has over 130 members made up of both Adults and Juveniles. Both regularly compete in events of all types and distances. Its mission is to represent Arklow with pride, offer coaching and support, a place to meet others, and build a club for the future generations of Arklow to enjoy. They are also the volunteer-led team behind the weekly Arklow Duckpond Junior parkrun which takes place every Sunday at 9:30 am.

Club training takes place at 7 pm on Tuesdays at the running track. All abilities, distances, and paces are catered for. If you want to know more about St Benedict Inbhear Mór AC you can check out their website.
