Tidy Towns Team Up for the biggest ever National Spring Clean

National Spring Clean is An Taisce’s Countrywide Spring Clean. and successful anti-litter initiative. Now in its 25th year, the campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by conducting clean ups in their local areas.

For 2024, Arklow Tidy Towns have teamed up with Aughrim Tidy Towns and Avoca Tidy Towns to make this years An Taisce, National Spring Clean the most successful Spring Clean ever!

Arklow, Aughrim & Avoca Tidy Towns Teams are calling for your help on April 14th, to come together as a community and help make a difference in keeping our town clean and beautiful.

With each crew meeting in their locality at 10am, the idea is to work your way to Woodenbridge Hotel where refreshments will be served for all volunteers.

Arklow meeting point: Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney, Pearse Park (Dog Track)

Aughrim Meeting Point: Lawless’ Hotel

Avoca Meeting Point: Woodview Park

 

In 2023, 5,640 groups registered to carry out clean-ups throughout the country – Volunteers who participated in the Spring Clean 2023 collected an estimated 2,600 tonnes of litter!

Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate in the Spring Clean on April 14th, and all necessary equipment will be provided by Arklow Tidy Towns. You can sign up here or pop along on the day. It is recommended you wear a hi viz vest, if you have one.

Arklow Tidy Towns

Arklow Tidy Towns is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the appearance of Arklow and making it a more environmentally friendly place to live. They work tirelessly to keep the streets clean, plant flowers and trees, and promote recycling and waste reduction.

Amongst their many accolades, they have on many occasions been the highest points achievers in the county. The stoic crew can often be found digging, picking, planning and pruning in all weathers to ensure the continuing clean and attractive appearance of the Town and its environs. Multiple gold medals and a raft of projects on the go at any one time, can sometimes make it feel like it all happens by magic but this crew don’t stop.

2023 saw the Tidy Towns Crew hitting a real high note as they secured a €5,000 award for being crowned the overall winner of the Royal Institute of Architects of Irelands Town Challenge category at the Tidy Towns Awards in relation to their work on the newly upgraded Parade Ground which is located in the centre of the town and is a first port of call for travellers arriving by train or bus to the Town.

National Spring Clean

The An Taisce National Spring Clean is an annual event that encourages communities to come together and clean up litter and debris from their streets and green spaces. This year, Arklow Tidy Towns is focusing on Woodenbridge road, a main thoroughfare in the town that has seen an increase in litter and pollution in recent months.

The effort and enthusiasm of the National Spring Clean volunteers is what ensures the campaign’s real impact year after year. National Spring Clean has become a fixed date on the school and community calendars of many towns and villages up and down the Country.

By participating in the An Taisce Spring Clean, residents of Arklow can take pride in their community and help make a positive impact on the environment. Keeping the streets clean and free of litter not only improves the appearance of the town but also helps to protect wildlife and reduce pollution.
