Frustration As Further Road Closure Announced

Arklow residents and businesses voiced their frustration as a further road closure was announced. Wicklow County Council confirmed that the L-6902 St.Mary’s Road will be closed from 24th October to the 4th November 2022 inclusive. The reason for the closure is to facilitate road carriageway reconstruction.

Traffic in the town, particularly due to the Main Street roadworks, is at a regular standstill. Coupled with busy morning periods and further work on the R-772 is leading to a daily bottleneck.

Alternative Routes have been outlined by Wicklow County Council below.

Westbound traffic on the R722 Main Street will be diverted via Main Street Upper, the R772 Wexford road, the L-6901 Liam Mellows Avenue, the L2-901 Abbey Street, and the L-6902 St.Mary’s Road, and Connolly Street.

Anyone wishing to object to the road closure must lodge the objection in writing to Transport and Roads, Wicklow County Council, County Buildings, Co.Wicklow, or by e-mail to roadtrans@wicklowcoco.ie before 12 noon on Wednesday 5th October 2022.
