Arrest made following Attempted Abduction of a Woman in Arklow

Gardai sent out an alert earlier today in relation to a Yellow Renault Traffic Van registration number 181-D-39433, last seen in Dublin City Centre. The public were asked not to approach the van if spotted but instead to alert the gardai.

Following further investigations, it transpires that the van in question was in fact involved in the attempted abduction of a woman in Arklow on Monday night, 11th March.

Investigations followed on foot of a report that  woman had been seen in the vicinity of the yellow van in a distressed state. The woman who was physically uninjured during the ordeal is currently being cared for and is receiving support from An Garda Siochana.

The man who is believed to be from Longford was finally apprehended in Co. Mayo earlier today. The suspect has previous convictions for violence. Garda are investigating the possibility of the attempted abduction being connected to human trafficking.

A Garda spokesperson has said today:

“An Garda Siochana has successfully located the vehicle in question in Co. Mayo, following information provided by a member of the public. An adult male has been arrested and is presently in custody at a Garda Station in the North Western Garda Region”.
