Arklow RNLI respond to reports of vessel adrift off Arklow Bank

Earlier Today, Tuesday 2nd April at 6.30am the Irish Coastguard tasked the RNLI lifeboat station at Arklow to launch following reports of a large yacht in difficulty near the Arklow Bank.

A short time later, crew launched the station’s All-Weather Lifeboat Ger Tigchlearr, the volunteer crew headed out of Arklow and made best speed to the reported position some 18 miles South East of Arklow.

Arklow RNLI bring large yacht to safety following call out
Once on scene, it was established that the large 16metre vessel had developed engine failure. It was agreed that the vessel would be taken under tow back to Arklow by Arklow RNLI’s Lifeboat, Ger Tigchlearr.

The lifeboat and the casualty vessel with 4 crew aboard arrived back into Arklow at approx. 10.30am where it was secured on the pontoons in the inner dock. All hands came ashore safely.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the Ireland and the UK. The RNLI operates over 230 lifeboat stations with 44 in Ireland.
