Arklow United Claim Top Of The Table Win

Aklow United B ran out 5-2 winners over Newtown in what was a top of the table clash.

On a perfect night for football a very strong looking Newtown B were the visitors to Arklow Credit Union Park.

The 1st half was a techy affair. United went 1-0 up on 16 minutes when Faysal chased down Newtown’s keeper and the clearance deflected off Faysal before nestling in the back of the net.

Newtown came back within 3 minutes though with an absolute worldie from outside the box straight into top corner.

Newtown then took the lead just after the half hour & had their tails up.

That was until that man Richie Neary stepped up & took control of the game. He made it 2-2 just before half time with a brave header going toe to toe with the onrushing keeper after a peach of a ball from Faysal. The half time score was level at 2-2.

In the 2nd half United were excellent. On 55 minutes Richie took a corner from the left hand side which flew straight into the net.

Unbelievably it happened again 7 minutes later and United were 4-2 up with less than half an hour to go. With 20 minutes remaining to go it was Richie again who was played through one on one with the keeper, who he rounded to make it 5-2.

The win sees Arklow United move above Newtown in the table into 2nd place before a tough encounter with league leaders Rathnew at home next Friday night.
