Arklow Racquetball Club Triumph At All Ireland Championships

Arklow Racquetball Club celebrated a triumphant weekend at the All Ireland Championships this weekend. After traveling to Fermoy they dominated in several categories including two all-Arklow finals. The club’s medal haul included three Gold and two Silver which was announced on their social media;

“Antonia Neary paired up with Aisling Hickey from Rossmore to Win the Ladies Open Doubles in a spectacular 11- 7 Tiebreaker against the previous All Ireland Champions Haverty and Kenny from Castlebar. Unfortunately, Antonia had to settle for 3rd place in the singles as she was knocked out by her partner and eventual winner Aisling in the semi-finals.”

“In the Men’s B, Brian Byrne and Scott Young battled it out in the final to see which Arklow player would take home the B Cup. Brian clinched the title by beating Scott with having just a little bit more experience.”

“The Men’s D final also saw two Arklow players battling it out with each other to get a shot at the title. Both James Smith and Reece Young fought down to the wire, with James only securing the title after an 11-8 Tiebreaker.”

“Reece also paired up with his brother Elliot in the Men’s CD Doubles but was narrowly defeated by the more experienced pairing of Cunningham and Herlihy.”

“It was a fantastic weekend and we would like to say a massive thank you to our Arklow member Jimmy Gannon who stepped up as tournament director for the weekend and who was also on-site to give our players some valuable coaching tips.”
