Arklow Brothers Aiming to Row Atlantic

Two Arklow brothers are taking on the challenge of a lifetime by aiming to row across the Atlantic Ocean. Andrew and Eamon Breen are deep in preperation for the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge on 12th December 2023.

Dubbed the premier event in rowing, it sees competitors travel more than 4,800km from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Nelsons Dockyard in Antigua & Barbuda. Between 20-40 teams will battle sleep deprivation, hallucinations, hunger along with the Atlantic seas. Rowers are left with their own thoughts, an expanse of the ocean and the job of getting the boat safely to the other side.

Both Andrew and Eamon are no strangers to the sea. The keen rowers have always competed in many sports together growing up. However Andrew admits he was surprised to hear his younger brother answering the call. A simple “I’ll do that with you” kicked off the beginning of their journey. Team “Atlantic Broing” was born. Two charities Make A Wish and First Light will benefit from their adventure which are both very important to the rowers.

Arklow BrothersSpeaking about the charities the Arklow Brothers said:

“There is a significant cost in this challenge to just get to the starting line. We are looking for your help to raise funds here to allow us focus publicly on raising charitable funds. We have linked with Make A Wish Ireland and First Light.”

“First Light supports families who have experienced Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Our oldest brother, Rory, died at 10 weeks. So we plan to bring Rory with us on this journey by  naming our boat after him.”

“Make A Wish is also very special to us as we can clearly see the importance of their work and impact they can have on the lives of those who need an uplift at some of the hardest times.”

Donations can be made through the Atlantic Broing GoFundMe page with options for corporate sponsors also available. All details about the challenge are on
